Eye health campaigns in schools in Inhassoro

Eyes of the world regularly runs awareness campaigns in schools in the province of Inhambane, Mozambique, to inform and sensitise the younger population. Introducing these activities in schools is key to advancing vision care: the sooner preventive eye health habits are adopted and refractive errors or pathologies are detected, the easier it will be to address solutions and treatments and improve the eye health of the population.

In line with this approach, on 12 September, the Foundation team gave a talk on eye health at Estrela do Mar Secondary School in the district of Inhassoro. A total of 670 students (400 girls and 270 boys) took part, learning about the importance of prevention and eye care. To reinforce the knowledge imparted, games with questions were played and sunglasses were given to students and teachers.

The awareness talks were also extended to other educational centres in the district with the aim of reaching a larger number of young people, such as the Filipi Jacinto Nyusi Secondary School and the Alberto Cassimo Institute for Vocational Training and Labour Studies.

This project by Eyes of Mozambique is funded by the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation (ACCD).
