#StopBarrerasSalud

#StopBarriersToHealth

Eyes of the world has launched an awareness-raising project that promotes the awareness of society in relation to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and specifically SDG3 to ensure healthy lives and well-being for people of all ages.

The campaign aims to encourage reflection on target 3.8 of the Sustainable Development Goals to achieve Universal Health Coverage, i.e. access to quality, effective and affordable essential health services for all. The World Health Organization’s strategy for achieving Universal Health Coverage is to implement integrated health services, putting the comprehensive needs of individuals and communities (not just diseases) at the centre of health systems, and empowering people to take a more active role in their own health. Image of the #StopBarriersHealth campaignBased on the experience of ophthalmological cooperation in Africa, the Foundation highlights the inequalities faced by today’s society according to recent studies published by The Lancet and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB): The Lancet Global Health Commission on Global Eye Health: vision beyond 2020 and World report on vision IAPB.

With the hashtag #StopBarriersToHealth, Eyes of the world highlights the main barriers to eye health for people, especially women and girls. Specifically, the publications address:

  • People’s misinformation and lack of knowledge in recognising their own vision loss and knowing how and where to go for an eye check-up or treatment.
  • The difficulties of travel faced by populations in rural areas far from health centres to access the care they need.
  • Inequalities in access and care between women and men linked to gender roles and socio-economic and cultural factors characteristic of each territory.

The contents (both the images presented in attractive and current formats, and the texts that expose the causes and consequences of each situation) have been created specifically for this campaign and are disseminated online, through the corporate profiles of Eyes of the world on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, and in the SDGs and Human Rights section of the Foundation’s website. The campaign has an interactive format to challenge the population and invite them to reflect and raise awareness.

This initiative is funded by the Government of Navarre.
